Young Scientist Awards (Under 35 inclusive)

Youg Scientist Awards (Under 35 inclusive) will recognize outstanding papers and posters. To be considered you must submit an abstract, apply for competition, register for the meeting and submit a 3 page summary to worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com

Young Scientist Award will recognize One (1) outstanding platform and One (1) outstanding poster.  Awardee will receive:

1) Certificate

2) One year WAML Membership

3) Complimentary registration for one of the next two Congress'

NOTE:  The applicant must submit a summary of max. 3 pages of their paper or poster to worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com and Thierry.Vansweevelt@uantwerpen.be by June 1, 2027.


The Antwerp Health Law and Ethics Chair (AHLEC):

The Award:

1. AHLEC agrees to fund an annual AHLEC Award for Comparative Health Law to begranted at each WAML Congress, starting with the 2026 Congress in Antwerp.

2. The award consists of:

  • A monetary amount of 1,000 EUR;
  • Books: freely chosen from the catalogues of:
  • Intersentia, up to a value of €200, and
  • Edward Elgar Publishing, up to a value of £200.

Eligibility and Criteria

1. The AHLEC award will be granted for the best oral or poster presentation in the fieldof comparative health law at to the WAML Congress.

2. The AHLEC award will be presented at an award ceremony during the WAMLcongress.

3. The applicant must apply specifically for the AHLEC award competition, and must submit a summary of max. 3 pages of their paper or poster to worldassocmedlaw@gmail.com and Thierry.Vansweevelt@uantwerpen.be by June 1, 2027.

4. The applicant must attend the award ceremony.

5. Submissions will be judged on scientific quality, originality, and the relevance of thecomparative legal analysis.

6. Everyone can participate, without age limit.

7. If no candidate meets the qualitative requirements, the prize will not be awarded.

Regulations

1. Objective

The WAML Scholarship Program aims to support and encourage young professionals in the field of medical law by facilitating their participation in the annual WAML Congress.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Hold a master’s degree (or equivalent qualification).
  • Be no older than 35 years at the time of the congress.
  • Be a current member of WAML.
  • Submit a curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Submit an abstract to the WAML Scientific Committee prior to the specified deadline and receive acceptance.
  • Submit a three-page summary paper prior to the specified deadline and participate in the Young Scholars Award (YSA) session or the Antwerp Health Law and Ethics Chair award.

3. Scholarship Conditions

  • A maximum of 10 scholarships will be awarded per congress.
  • The scholarship amounts to USD 500, which may be used to cover the registration fee, travel costs, and/or accommodation expenses. Reimbursement will only be made upon presentation of invoices.
  • Each recipient is required, after the congress, to submit their presentation as a full article to the Journal of Medicine and Law for possible publication.   Information for Authors
  • Each individual may receive a WAML scholarship no more than twice.

4. Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated by the WAML Scientific Committee on the basis of:

  • Originality of the contribution.
  • Scientific quality.
  • Clarity of expression.
  • Relevance to medical law and related fields.
  • Difficulty level of the subject.
  • Logical structure and proper grammar.

5. Award Procedure

  • Applications must be submitted within the announced deadline.
  • The Scientific Committee evaluates all eligible applications.  Decisions of the Scientific Committee are final and not subject to appeal.
